Discipleship

Dictionary defines a disciple as:

* A person who is a pupil or adherent to the doctrines of another.

* One who embraces and assists in spreading the teaching of another.

* Any follower of another person.

The art of discipleship is to show, teach and direct a people or person to follow a pattern, person or belief.  So in the kingdom of God- which is our kingdom as believers, the art of disciplining is to show, teach and direct a people or person to know, follow and become like Jesus Christ.

We as human beings are already being discipled one way or another. We may not necessarily be disciples of Christ or of the Christian faith, but we are already disciples of something. For some, it’s their favorite writer, the person at their work place they consider a better version of themselves and for another, it’s that superstar they want to emulate whatever the situation may be.  I think it is just right to agree that we are already being discipled because there is no vacuum in the spirit.

Now when it comes to discipleship as believers, we have one role model! His name is Jesus Christ. He has been the standard in the past, He is the standard now and He will forever be the standard. We should not disciple anyone to look or be like us, rather we should disciple people to look and be like Jesus Christ. Someone then says to you, but I thought you are like Christ! Your answer will be I am a work in progress. There are things in my life that I am still dealing with. I am transforming daily, closer to being like Him than I was yesterday, however I’m not the perfect picture, Jesus Christ is. It is important that we don’t limit people’s knowledge of God by our limitations and so it’s important we point people to Jesus, letting them know His standards for life.

This my friend, is true discipleship.

Have a God filled life

Scriptures to ponder 🤔 upon

“It is He Who, coming after me, is preferred before me, the string of Whose sandal I am not worthy to unloose.”

John 1:27 AMPC

“The next day John saw Jesus coming to him and said, Look! There is the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world! [Exod. 12:3; Isa. 53:7.] This is He of Whom I said, After me comes a Man Who has priority over me [Who takes rank above me] because He was before me and existed before I did.”

John 1:29-30 AMPC
